Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"We got a delivery for the first time, and it did not disappoint. We were craving the traditional Aussie Chinese dishes from our childhood, so ordered all the classics: special fried rice, honey chicken, and sweet and sour pork. My hubby was over the moon. The sauce for the pork came in a separate container, which meant the pork was super crispy. The fried rice was extra fresh and not in the least oily. Everything was 10/10, will definitely order again!"
"Spent the day with a friend who is down from Qld. Thought going to dinner might be a lovely way to end our day together. As we weren't familiar with what was available locally, we resorted to the internet & stumbled upon the Ming Village Chinese Restaurant. We parked in a two hour zone on the street, @ no cost. At 5.45pm on a Tuesday, parking wasn't difficult to find. The restaurant is tucked away from the corner of the main strip, & is accessed by a short, steep flight of stairs. Difficult for those with mobility issues. It wasn't busy, but others were also dining. We were promptly seated & given menus. Our orders were taken as soon as we were ready. The food arrived piping hot, was fresh, & perfectly cooked. The staff were friendly, polite. & efficient. Payment is either cash or card, & the pricing reasonable. We didn't book ahead, but I can see where it might be busy on weekends. Well worth visiting if you enjoy Chinese food."
"I hadn’t been to Ming Village in Torquay since Year 11, and returning felt like revisiting a particularly comforting chapter of regional Australian Chinese dining. Situated upstairs above a small retail complex beside a carpark, it possesses all the aesthetic hallmarks we’ve come to know and love: lazy Susans, bright lights, colourful lanterns, pandas woven into the menu art, plastic ornaments, naff tablecloths, and gold-coloured chair covers that shimmer just enough to remind you this is a place that takes its dining room seriously. My good friend - and fellow Australian Chinese food aficionado -and I began with the chicken and sweet corn soup. It arrived as expected: savoury, well-seasoned, with that pleasingly viscous, almost silky broth texture that defines these soups. There was ample corn and tender shredded chicken, though I prefer the chicken in small bite-sized chunks. Still, it was comforting and generous. Next came the beef kway teow - an overseas Chinese Malaysian classic executed with confidence. Thick rice noodles tangled with egg and julienned vegetables, coated in dark soy sauce and cooked over high heat to achieve that unmistakable wok-char depth. There’s something deeply satisfying about a dish that tastes properly of the wok - slightly smoky, savoury, and robust. Both were lunch specials, and for my main I chose the sizzling king prawns with steamed rice. The prawns arrived plump and well-seasoned, nestled among fresh, crunchy seasonal vegetables in that ubiquitous master savoury house stock of Australian Chinese cooking. It was familiar, comforting, and exactly what I wanted. I couldn’t resist pairing it with a Tsingtao - even if we were the first seated customers at 11am. Ming Village is not innovative, nor does it attempt to be. Its strength lies in its humility: fresh ingredients, generous portions, efficient and genuinely friendly service, and dishes that deliver precisely what they promise. It’s the kind of place you return to with a group, spin the lazy Susan, and order widely. Next time, I may even bring a bottle of local Geelong wine - subject, of course, to BYO policy."
"This was my first visit and the restaurant was set up very nicely. The service was good and quick for my takeaway and my meal was delicious."
"We had lunch there as we missed Asian food. It was a quiet afternoon on a weekday. The food was actually pretty good."
"Old school Chinese. I love this place, and they do a great lunch meal with plenty of options for 12 bucks! Quick friendly service. The fried rice is really good and so are the dishes I have tried. The picture I've included is satay beef and vegetables (good variety of veg) with fried rice and the lunch menu. Definitely give it a go if you're looking to satisfy your Chinese food craving for lunch or dinner."
"Fantastic meal, really good country town Chinese cuisine. Beautiful restaurant overlooking the Main Street of Torquay. Will be back for my birthday party. Amazing price on the lunch menu."
"On my first visit here, I thoroughly enjoyed the lunch special; the flavors were delightful. The freshness of the prawn stood out, and the complimentary upgrade to fried rice was a delightful surprise."
